Head Barista

Reporting To: Restaurant Manager
Department: Food and Beverage

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for all aspects of coffee production.

  • Complete and oversee all daily operations of the coffee bar.

  • Oversee all barista employees, including training, discipline, and commendation.

  • Manage baristas' customer service, beverage preparation, and operational procedures.

  • Contribute ideas for operational flow to achieve target sales and profitability.

  • Be "on-call" to respond to problems or fill in when needed.

  • Cultivate a professional, friendly, and efficient work environment.

  • Lead barista meetings.

  • Train staff to maintain and uphold all company and café policies.

  • Create a superior café experience through customer service and beverage presentation.

  • Ensure all projects and responsibilities are completed efficiently.

  • Handle customer complaints with professionalism and tact.

  • Manage barista breaks and ensure proper staffing.

  • Solve problems proactively to benefit the café and company.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in specialty coffee.

  • Understanding of high-functioning coffee bar operations.

  • Ability to model barista skills, customer service, and enthusiasm for coffee knowledge.

  • Previous management experience.

  • Ability to multitask and work effectively under pressure.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma (minimum).

  • Basic latte art knowledge.

  • High-volume experience with coffee-making equipment.

  • Working knowledge of all coffee types and standard beverage recipes.

  • Basic numeracy and money-handling skills.

  • Fluency in required language (reading and speaking).

  • Ability to stand for long hours.

  • Ability to lift and carry moderate amounts of weight.
